THE WHOLE COUNTRY seemed to be watching Waterford man Thomas Barr’s Olympic 400m hurdles final in Rio yesterday.
He came agonisingly close to a medal by finishing in fourth place – and his family and friends watching on were class.
But just as he was getting interviewed in the stadium after – his parents saw him for the first time since the race <3
And they absolutely leapt on him with pride
Thomas hadn’t seen them in so long that day he was just like: “THEY’RE ALIVE!”
And sure his tweets late last night were just as sound
Always thinking of people back home and their celebrating time.
And his new Twitter bio is equally as understated:
“Didn’t expect it, but that’ll do…”
Some performance.

Thomas’s parent are, of course, the ones who raised the Barr….
Thomas Barry as our Minister of SPORT would call him.
Our future medalist in Tokyo!
