FORMER MONAGHAN MANAGER Mattie Lennon has expressed his shock at the actions of the county board and claimed that ‘common sense’ should have prevailed.
Lennon resigned from his position over the weekend because of a fixtures dispute regarding club games this week and the National Hurling League Division 3A final on Sunday.
Speaking on RTE Radio 1′s Sport At Seven last night, Lennon said: “I assumed that because Monaghan were in the National League final, the matches would have been rescheduled.”
The only rule that they didn’t apply was common sense. Anybody in their right mind would not play a match three of four days before a National League final.”

“To me, there are a lot of people are not really serious about hurling. They want to hide behind the rules and regulations and they don’t want to come out and say that.”
Lennon, who revealed he was given a list of reasons why the games could not be rescheduled, does not see the disagreement being resolved in the short-term and added that it was a “sad day”.
