ANYONE WHO HAS watched It’s Always Sunny In Philadelphia is well aware of the fact that the gang make a real effort to celebrate their Irish heritage.
For instance, their bar is called Paddy’s – despite the fact that none of them are named Paddy. It’s decorated with a load of Irish memorabilia, including a photo of a real life Irish cop working for New Jersey State Police who recently died.

The seriousness that the gang treat their Irish heritage with is often treated as a bit of a joke, especially when it comes to Mac, who is what a lot of us would consider a Plastic Paddy. In early seasons he takes his Irish-Catholicism to extremes.
He becomes pro-life to sleep with a fundamentalist, he represses his homosexuality for eleven seasons because he doesn’t want to upset God. Sounds Irish enough, but could he pass the real test on how Irish a person is?
In other words, could he tell us who Marty Morrissey is?

There’s now evidence that suggests that Marty Morrissey may watch It’s Always Sunny In Philadelphia.
The reference may indeed go totally over Marty’s head, but the idea of him watching the show is kind of brilliant. The reference was made yesterday afternoon when Marty Morrissey was interviewing Davy Fitzgerald to discuss his move to becoming manager of Wexford GAA.
It opens and closes with the theme song from It’s Always Sunny In Philadelphia and even includes a mock up of the shows logo.
Here’s the original:

Now we can’t help but wonder what Marty Morrissey thinks of the show. We can only dream of a The Gang Meets Marty Morrissey episode. Maybe he could replace Frank.
It’s not a great omen for Davy Fitzgerald, considering the disasters that the gang in It’s Always Sunny find themselves in.
If this was an episode of the show, it’s likely that unimaginable chaos would ensue. Maybe this is to blame for yesterday’s result. This was either overlooked, or the reference was made by someone who has it in for poor Davy.
