The Morning Score: Tuesday

Sepp Blatter faces the press and asks ‘crisis? what crisis’ while Irish preparation continue for the trip to Skopje.

1. #FIFA Sepp Blatter attempted to draw a line under the scandals which have engulfed football’s governing body with an extraordinary press conference yesterday evening.

The FIFA chief says “great damage” has been done to the organisation by bribery allegations against two senior executive committee members.

Mohamed bin Hammam and Jack Warner were barred on Sunday by an ethics committee from all FIFA business pending a full inquiry into allegations Caribbean soccer leaders were paid $40,000 each to back the Qatari’s now-abandoned presidential bid.

Blatter was also investigated as part of the probe but was cleared.

2. #EURO2012 Sean St Ledger and Glenn Whelan trained away from the main group of Ireland players at Malahide yesterday. Whelan is expected to be fit to start – if selected – but Giovanni Trapattoni faces an anxious wait on St Ledger.

Richard Dunne is suspended for Saturday’s trip to Skopje.

3. #ROLAND GARROS The men’s event is simmering nicely. Novak Djokovic took yesterday off when his opponent Fabio Fognini pulled out of the tournament. Rafael Nadal improved his record at Roland Garros to 42-1, beating Ivan Ljubicic 7-5, 6-3, 6-3 on Monday to reach the quarter-finals.

4. #GAA Marty Clarke is reportedly on his way to Australia this week to complete a new contract which would see him playing with Collingwood again next year.

The Down man was part of the side that lost to Armagh in the Ulster SFC defeat last weekend. Read Ciarán Murphy’s Sideline Cut column here.

5. #F1 Lewis Hamilton was left eating humble pie last night after initially accusing the Monaco stewards of racial overtones in their decision making.

Last night he insisted he had ‘made peace’ with the officials.

6. #DEVON LOCH We told you about this guy yesterday; he lost the Indy 500 by crashing on the final corner. Bummer.
