The Morning Score: Tuesday

We’re recovering in a dark room after yesterday’s transfer madness, Declan Kidney prepares to announce his Six Nations team and one inter-county manager reveals the effect the recession has on his squad.

1. #JANUARY SALES Well that was fun wasn’t it? Despite the global recession and impending financial fair play rules, yesterday’s deadline day action was more dramatic and vulgar than ever.

Andy Carroll smashed the British transfer record in a move to Liverpool for close to £40million, before Fernando Torres broke it again with his sensational £50m switch to Chelsea. (Is Carroll happy with the move?)

Despite a late, late swoop by Spurs and a day-long pursuit by the Reds, Charlie Adam stays at Blackpool.

2. #TRANSFER WINDOW For Trap’s men it was a mixed day: Shay Given remains on the Man City bench, Stephen Ireland escapes Villa Park with a Newcastle loan switch and Andy Reid rocks up to Bloomfield Road on a permanent move.

Interestingly, Kilmarnock’s former UCD and Derry City striker Conor Sammon joins Wigan Athletic.

3. #SIX NATIONS Fergus McFadden is in line for a senior Ireland debut against Italy on Saturday in Rome.

Declan Kidney will announce his team at lunchtime. We’ll have the news immediately.

4. #GYPSIES Pat Fenlon is on the verge of throwing his hat at the Bohs job. The frustrated manager says the crisis-hit Gypsies don’t have enough players to field in the Setanta Cup.

5. #BARCA ROW The FAI were obliged yesterday to agree to arbitration with Limerick over its decision last May to refuse the club permission for a fund-raising friendly game against Barcelona at Thomond Park.

6. #REF JUSTICE The referee who was at the centre of the Leinster SFC final controversy last summer, Martin Sludden, is not among the 16 referees who will be on duty for the first round of football league matches this weekend.

7. #CASH GAA president Christy Cooney faced the media at Croke Park yesterday for the launch of the national football league.

The Croker chief said that the pay for coaches document that is currently being compiled may not be made public when it is completed. And no action may be taken despite its contents.

8. #JOBS FOR THE BOYS Last year’s All-Ireland-winning manager Christy Cooney was also present at GAA HQ. The Aghada man let it be known that three of his panel were currently unemployed.

Paul Kerrigan, Donncha O’Connor and Alan O’Connor are currently looking for work, he says.

9. #DUNK Thanks to everyone who sent this yesterday. I watched it once every hour while working on the deadline day liveblog to put the madness in context.
