The Morning Score: St Patrick's Day

Six Irish winners on Day Two at Cheltenham, Real Madrid and Chelsea book their places in the Champions League quarter-finals, and Kidney names his side to stop England’s Grand Slam charge.

1. #CHELTFEST What a day that was for the Irish. Sizing Europe turned in an ultra-game performance to claim the sportingbet.com Queen Mother Champion Chase at Cheltenham as the raiding party took six of the seven races.

Read how it happened here.

2. #CHAMPIONS LEAGUE It may not have been pretty, but Chelsea booked their place in the quarter finals with a 0-0 draw at home to FC Copenhagen.

They’re joined in the final eight by Real Madrid who beat Lyon 3-0 thanks to goals from Marcelo, Benzema and Di Maria.

We had minute-by-minute coverage of the evening’s events which you can relive in painstaking detail here.

3. #SIX NATIONS Declan Kidney yesterday named his side to face England at Lansdowne Road on Saturday.

Jonny Sexton and Andrew Trimble return while Ronan O’Gara and Luke Fitzgerald drop to the bench. We caught up with Munster legend Frankie Sheahan who gave us his verdict here.

4. #PREMIER LEAGUE Manchester United manager Alex Ferguson was been handed a five-match touchline ban by the Football Association after being found guilty of improper conduct.

The ban starts on March 22 which means that Fergie will miss United’s trip to West Ham, home matches against Fulham and Everton, and United’s visit to the Emirates as well as the all-Manchester FA Cup semi-final at Wembley. Ouch.

5. #FAI John O’Shea is a major injury worry for Giovanni Trapattoni ahead of the Euro qualifier with Macedonia.

The Manchester United defender was substituted with a hamstring strain after just 35 minutes of United’s 2-1 victory over Marseille on Tuesday night though it’s not yet certain how long he’ll be out for.
