1. #RWC2011 The northern hemisphere is waking up to the fact that New Zealand are world champions again.

The hosts edged an intriguing battle with France at Eden Park yesterday morning, seeing them off by a single point 8-7, to end 24-years of frustration.

2. #PREMIER LEAGUE What a day it was in English football’s top flight yesterday. Manchester City hit a 10-man United for six in the derby at Old Trafford.

Chelsea were beaten 1-0 by QPR after they were reduced to nine men while Everton stunned Fulham at Craven Cottage and Arsenal took the points against Stoke.

3. #AIRTRICITY LEAGUE Shamrock Rovers hope to wrap up the domestic title for the second year on the trot tonight.

Michael O’Neill’s need side face UCD in Belfield knowing a win will see off the challenge of Sligo Rovers.

4. #GOLF Luke Donald shot the round of his life to win the final event on the US Tour and become the first European to finish top of the American money list.

Sergio Garcia meanwhile won the Castello Masters by 11 shots, dedicating the victory to the late Seve Ballesteros.

5. #RIP Italian rider Marco Simoncelli died on Sunday after crashing at the Malaysian MotoGP race in Sepang.

The 24-year-old’s bike was seen cutting across the track as he fell from his bike and into the path of Colin Edwards and Valentino Rossi. Powerless to change their course, the two riders crashed into the Simoncelli, who lost his helmet during the impact.

6. #HERO European lightweight champion Katie Taylor was welcomed back to Dublin last night after she took another European title on Saturday.

The three-time World Champion claimed a 10-5 decision over rival Sofya Ochigava of Russia in Rotherdam to stay on track for London 2012.
