The Morning Score: Friday

After slip sliding your way into work, or simply downstairs, hungover, after the Christmas Party, let us fill you in on Friday’s sporting headlines…

1. #TOP JOB Steve Hansen has been announced as the new head coach of the New Zealand rugby side, replacing World Cup-winning boss Graham Henry. “No words can explain how humbling it is to be given the opportunity to be the All Blacks coach,” Hansen said.

2. #OH ‘ARRY Harry Redknapp could find himself in trouble with UEFA after raising a clenched fist at ‘Shamrock’ fans during Tottenham’s 4-0 Europa League win over the Irish side in Tallaght. Goals from Steven Pienaar, Andros Townsend, Jermain Defoe and Harry Kane were not enough to preserve Spurs’ European status, with Rubin Kazan drawing 1-1 with PAOK Salonika in the group’s other match.

3. #HOLDING POSITION Ian Poulter remains top of the leaderboard at the midway point of the Australian Masters in Melbourne, holding a two shot advantage over Matthew Giles. Geoff Ogilvy is only four points off the lead on five-under, while Luke Donald also remains in contention on three-under, six shots off Poulter’s lead.

4. #APOLOGY RTE insist that they have apologised to Mickey Harte over a controversial skit that appeared on the John Murray Show, which offended the Tyrone manager only months after the tragic death of his daughter Michaela.

5. #DEFEAT There was disappointment for Ireland’s hockey stars in the Four Nations tournament in Argentina, as Gene Muller’s side lost 1-2 to India.
