The Morning Score: Friday

Sepp Blatter, Tiger Woods and Mick Wallace. Just your usual Friday morning news wrap.

1. #FIFA Embattled FIFA chief Sepp Blatter is resisting calls for his resignation in the wake of his latest gaffe.

The head of football’s world governing body sparked outrage with his latest remarks about racism not existing on the football pitch.

Last night British prime minister, David Cameron, joined the calls for Blatter’s exit.

It came after Rio Ferdinand became embroiled in a Twitter spat with the Swiss administrator yesterday afternoon.

It is isn’t the first time he’s courted controversy.

2. #HEINEKEN CUP After last week’s stunning reintroduction, the European Cup takes centrestage again this weekend.

Connacht welcome tournament giants Toulouse to Galway tomorrow, Munster travel to Castres, Ulster are in Leicester and Glasgow come to Dublin for a clash with Leinster.

3. #POLITICAL FOOTBALL Opposition TD Mick Wallace has asked the government to move the Dáil summer break next year so that TDs can fully enjoy the European Championships.

The Wexford Youths chief raised the issue in the Dáil but was shot down by Tánaiste Eamon Gilmore.

4. #WORLD CUP But it’s down to business for FAI chief John Delaney today who will meet the other associations’ representatives in our qualifying group in an attempt to schedule the games.

5. #PRESIDENT’S CUP Tiger Woods had a better day than yesterday today in Melbourne but still lost out. America are two up despite Woods and new partner Dustin Johnson taking it to the final green rather than crashing 7&6.

But a four-foot par putt by Aaron Baddeley gave him and fellow Aussie Jason Day a one-up win.

6. #ELSEWHERE… In Malaysia, Daniel Chopra took control of the Iskandar Johor Open.

The Swede followed up a first-round 64 with a 65 to lead the way on 13 under par. Padraig Harrington is now  six shots off the lead.
