The Departures Lounge: your daily lunchtime transfer round-up

Find out the latest ridiculous development in the Cesc Fabregas transfer saga, which Brazilian trio Man United are looking to sign, plus Dimitar Berbatov reveals why he is so lazy.

THOUGHT THE FABREGAS transfer saga couldn’t get any more ridiculous?

Think again.

David Cameron and Spanish Prime Minister Jose Luis Zapatero have had to intervene, as talks reach crisis point. Or so this picture suggests anyway.

Meanwhile, Carlos Tevez continues his ongoing bid to leave England, as he is apparently ‘very close’ to a moving to Inter Milan.

Man United are looking to sign three Brazilian players, boosting the Premiership’s contingent of South Americans, following Tevez’s almost inevitable departure.

The players in question are two midfielders in the form of Sao Paulo’s Lucas (that’s right, there’s another Brazilian midfielder named Lucas) and Santos’ Ganso, in addition to Fluminese striker Adryan.

United will also look to sign Roma’s 27-year-old striker Mirko Vucinic, who scored a whopping 2 goals in 24 appearances in one season for Roma, before increasing his tally to 10 in 28 last year.

However, much of this speculation is rubbish according to David Gill, who says that United only want to make one more signing.

If one of their intended targets is indeed Vucinic, they will have to compete with Spurs for his signature, as Harry Redknapp’s men are apparently closing in on a £15m transfer.

Arsenal will unfortunately not be signing the coolest-sounding player in the world, as Juan Mata is set for a move to newly-minted Spanish club Malaga.

Finally, Dimitar Berbatov has explained why he has such a lazy demeanour. It’s because (shock, horror!) he really is lazy and because “great quality doesn’t require much effort” apparently.

Ill-advised transfer of the day: Newcastle don’t seem to realise that Jermain Defoe’s best days are behind him.

Advised transfer of the day: Sevilla are signing Spurs’ Giovani dos Santos – a player who did well at the World Cup, but never got much of a chance at Tottenham. Harry Redknapp has little faith in him, but then again, he also once almost sold Gareth Bale to Nottingham Forest.
