Plot: The BT Sport-produced documentary, which aired on St Stephen’s Day, tells the story of the infamous Wimbledon team of the 1980s. Under Dave ‘Harry’ Bassett (later Bobby Gould) and backed by Lebanese businessman Sam Hammam, the Dons climbed from non-league to the First Division in under ten years.
A tightly-knit group, they focused on playing ultra-physical, long-ball football which was often downright violent. In 1988, Wimbledon did they did the unthinkable and defeated one of the great Liverpool sides in the FA Cup final at the old Wembley.
With interviews from Bassett, Gould, Hammam and former players Vinnie Jones, John Fashanu, Terry Phelan, Alan Cork, Lawrie Sanchez, Dave Beasant and Dennis Wise, the 80-minute long film gives countless tales of camaraderie, dressing room fights and over-the-top practical jokes.
