Thanksgiving NFL: Patriots thrash Jets, Texans edge Detroit

Robert Griffin III put on a master class quarterback display in the Redskins’ 38-31 win over the Dallas Cowboys meanwhile.

THE NEW ENGLAND Patriots dismantled the New York Jets 49-19 in the NFL last night to make it five straight wins.

]The Patriots scorched the Jets in the second quarter with a 35-point run including 21 points in 52 seconds as Tom Brady capitalised on four New York turnovers with three touchdown passes.

Brady added another in the second half and threw for 323 yards, while Stevan Ridley and Shane Vereen combined for 137 rushing yards.

Jets quarterback Tim Tebow did not play at all on Thursday, raising questions about his future.

In their five straight wins, the Patriots have averaged 44 points a game and stay top of the AFC East division with an 8-3 win-loss record, while the Jets are bottom.

The Houston Texans stretched their NFL-best record to 10-1 after a 34-31 overtime win over the unlucky Detroit Lions. Shayne Graham slotted a 32-yard field goal with just over two minutes left in the extra period to lead the Texans home.

Lions coach Jim Schwartz cost his side with unsportsmanlike conduct following a challenge on Justin Forsett’s 81-yard touchdown and Jason Hanson was unable to bail him out late on with his 47-yard field goal attempt hitting the upright.

Robert Griffin III put on a master class quarterback display with 311 yards and four touchdowns in the Washington Redskins’ 38-31 win over the Dallas Cowboys. Griffin threw eight-of-eight in the second quarter to notch the Redskins’ first 28-point quarter in 13 years.
