THERE’S A SAYING that goes; “Eat like a king in the morning, a prince at noon, and a peasant at dinner”.
It’s not without its merits, and obviously means eat less — and better — as the day goes on. Here are five habits you know you should change:

1. Eating late at night
A bit of tea and toast is lovely before bed but here’s a test as much as an experiment; go without food after 7.30pm for the next three weeks and look how leaner you will be in the mornings. Trust me, you will notice a difference. We’re not saying starve yourself and go to bed hungry but feel how your body will start to adapt to expecting less. In short, it will get harder before it gets easier.
2. Eating more than you need
Oh how we all love a hotel all-you-can-eat buffet and if there was an award for ‘biggest slob with the least manners’ I’m sure we could all lay reasonable claims for that title.
It goes like this; how many trips can I realistically take to the buffet table without security being called. Two trips is okay. Six isn’t. It’s likely you’ll consume enough calories to meet your daily requirements if you do the latter…but you’ve long stopped listening, haven’t you?
3. Eating because you’re bored or idle
We’re heading into binge-eating season and if you want to start 2015 on a good note and not three kilos overweight then watch your habits this next six weeks. With festive holidays looming there are endless parties and endless hangovers. And what’s better than killing time on the couch (dying) waiting for Super Sunday than eating, and eating some more?
4. Saying ‘yes’ all the time
Yes, the season to be jolly is rapidly approaching and before you know it you’ll be wading to the canteen through a river of Assorted USA biscuits and Roses. You don’t have to be like Tyler Hamilton taking sweets and shoving them in the bin 10 minutes later for fear of putting on weight, but politely refusing is not rude, okay. And you sweet pushers out there? Give the guys a break if they say they’ll pass this time…

These are disguised as healthy snacks but they are anything but. In fact, you might be surprised to hear they can have as much sugar as a regular-sized dessert. We won’t name names but don’t be fooled by ‘healthy sounding’ bar names.
