Suarez dreaming of Wembley

Liverpool’s Uruguayan talisman is hopeful of making an impact against Championship opponents Cardiff in Sunday’s Carling Cup final.

Liverpool forward Luis Suarez says that it is “a dream come true” to represent the club he has long admired at Wembley.

The 25-year-old Uruguayan is hoping to make his fourth appearance in this season’s Carling Cup competition when Liverpool face Championship outfit Cardiff City on Sunday.

“As for all players it is a dream come true to play at Wembley,” Suarez told the official Cup final matchday programme.”It is going to be a special occasion for both teams.”

“People in Uruguay know all about Wembley with it being the national stadium in England. It is famous worldwide.”

Suarez also spoke of his pride to be following in the footsteps of Anfield legends Kevin Keegan and now-manager Kenny Dalglish by wearing the famous No7 shirt, although he admits the number’s significance was lost on him when he first arrived from Ajax a little over a year ago.

“I wasn’t aware when I arrived at Liverpool that Kevin Keegan and Kenny Dalglish also wore the number seven shirt but I don’t see it as an added pressure, rather an inspiration and honour to wear the same number,” he said.

“If I can replicate what they have done for the club then I will be very happy.”

Amusingly, the striker suspects his love of the Merseyside club can be traced to a teenage computer game habit.

“It might sound a bit of a cliché but I always supported Liverpool when following English football.”

“When I was younger and playing on the PlayStation against my friends I would always choose Liverpool.”

Suarez takes to the field this weekend in the hope of adding to his 10 goals in all competitions so far in 2011-12.
