His swerving effort against Middlesbrough
THE 2004/2005 SEASON saw Steven Gerrard score a plethora of wonderful goals along with some of the most important in the history of the club. While this goal may have not been as significant as some of the others it was surely the most pleasing on the eye. It narrowly lost out to Wayne Rooney’s volley against Newcastle for Premier League goal of the year. Almost Suarez-esque.
The pile-driver against Manchester United in 2001
Gerrard loves playing against Manchester United and has scored nine goals during his career against them. You have to go all the way back to March 2001 to find his first, and what a goal it was. Liverpool won 2-0, and it was the first time the Merseyside club achieved the double over their great rivals for 22 years.
The entrance of a legend
Some 17 years ago Liverpool fans got their first glimpse of Gerrard as he entered the fray against Blackburn as a fresh faced 18-year-old in a 2-0 win. Gerrard has odd memories of that day ”All the subs were applauded when Gerard Houllier sent us to warm up,” Gerrard said later. “Well, nearly all. When I ran towards the Kop I could almost hear them saying: ‘Who’s this skinny little t–t?’ “.
His first Liverpool goal
In December 2000 Gerrard netted his maiden goal for the club in a 4-1 win over Sheffield Wednesday. After a turbulent start to the season in which saw him earn his first red card against Everton, Gerrard’s goal offered somewhat of a tonic. His mazy run past three defenders before firing low across the ‘keeper gave a glimpse of what he was capable of for many years to come.
“This does not slip”
Despite what happened a few weeks later, this was class. After their victory over Manchester City the title was briefly theirs to lose and Gerrard’s post-match rallying calls made every Liverpool fan believe.
The hat-trick against Everton
No player had scored a treble in a Merseyside Derby for 30 years before Gerrard performed a one-man demolition job on the Blues in 2012. Here is the first of his three goals in that tie.
Saving Liverpool’s skin against Olympiakos
Cometh the hour, cometh the man. With Liverpool needing a goal to go through to the knock-out stages illustrious team-mates such as Florent Sinama-Pongolle and Neil Mellor set up the perfect finish with a goal each. Gerrard duly obliged, smashing in an 86th-minute bullet to send the Kop in raptures. We all know what followed.
Thanks for the wonderful memories, Stevie G.

Surely the FA Cup final against West Ham deserves a mention, no?
It’s his Anfield moment, that goal was in Cardiff
What a legend what a hero ! Still can’t believe they didn’t give him a contract this time last year when he deserved one he could a done another year easily . Missin strikers this year is what cost us , hopefully the board back rodgers .
Was offered another year but turned it down due to being told he wouldn’t start as many games . Plus the terms of contract were not as lucrative of his present contract with Liverpool .
I would love to see those details… Please provide links that are not from rag papers.
That’s a lie he was offered another year this season , after the talk rodgers had with him. There was no need for that talk and no need to drop him for big games like madrid and utd game, should a got a contract this time last year and his same wage he is liverpool he ran the club for the last 15 yrs , rodgers wanted him gone
Me bollocks, I’m a Liverpool fan and I can tell ye Gerrard just hasn’t got the legs anymore. He’s not a third of the player he was a few seasons back
Stevie G deserves all the accolades he is getting at the moment. Thanks for the brilliant memories. Istanbul and the FA Cup Final against West Ham are my favourites.
But he has declined. No doubt in my mind having watched him closely. Rodgers has handled this very carefully and all credit to him.
Stevie speaks very highly of him, despite his exit.
Fenway need to give Brodge the money for a top class striker and midfielder. Brodge will do the rest !
