Steven Gerrard got in one last cheeky dig at Chelsea fans before he leaves for LA this summer

The Liverpool captain doesn’t have much respect for the Stamford Bridge supporters.

DURING YESTERDAY’S 1-1 draw between Chelsea and Liverpool at Stamford Bridge, Steven Gerrard, who scored Liverpool’s equaliser, was given a big round of applause from both sets of supporters as he left the field.

It was a nice gesture from the home crowd – although as Gerrard pointed out afterwards, a few seconds of claps doesn’t exactly erase all the vitriol he has received from the same fans over the years.

The reaction of Chelsea supporters towards Gerrard got even more intense after the Liverpool captain’s slip cost his team dearly in last season’s title race, and he slapped away their olive branch emphatically on Sky after the game.

Hardly the most controversial statement ever uttered – even Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho has criticised his own supporters at various stages this season.

Still, it was refreshing to see a hurt player actually voice his true feelings rather than just lying and thanking the fans who, for the most part, have directed nothing but hatred at him during his career.

What did you make of Gerrard’s reaction?

Even when on the bench he didn’t get game time. The coach doesn’t like or trust him. Saturday once again showed just how wrong O’connor has been all season

He has a very big chance next season with Leinster during the World Cup, midfield won’t be as competitive so he should get a good run of matches.

Mark if Darcy doesn’t make the World Cup squad, he’ll play 12 with t’eo at 13. Then Madigan and sexton will be back so the midfield won’t be as easy to get into as you may think

It’s always to easy to see who coaches ‘just like/don’t like’. When Gopperth played badly it was ignored whereas when Madigan played mediocre or even if Reid played well decisions went against them.

It creates such a poisonous culture as some players start to feel entitled to spots and others feel it doesn’t matter how well they play they won’t get picked. Cody and Fergusson were masters at disregarding players identities and judging on match performance alone. MOC is such a stink manager.
