'It's been the perfect response from England' — Steve McClaren tempts fate as Iceland net winner

McClaren froze on air as Kolbeinn Sigthorsson squeezed what turned out to be the winning goal past Joe Hart.

STEVE MCCLAREN PRODUCED one of the funniest TV moments of the year as England conceded what turned out to be the winning goal to Iceland at Euro 2016.

The ex-England manager, who was watching the last-16 game in the Sky Sports studios, was in the middle of declaring that Iceland posed no real threat for England — apart from their striker Kolbeinn Sigthorsson.

No sooner had the words left McClaren’s mouth and the Icelandic striker had the ball in the back of Joe Hart’s net.

McClaren’s flabbergasted expression sums up England’s shock as two goals in 12 minutes proved enough to send Iceland into the last eight.

Hodgson resigned as England boss almost immediately after the game, while McClaren declared the result would have “enormous repercussions.”
