Here's your St Stephen's Day sports TV guide so you don't have to leave the couch once

There’s a lot of rugby, racing and football to keep you happy.

ST STEPHEN’S DAY is easily one of the most satisfying sports days of the year. While you digest yesterday’s turkey and mull over which local you’ll steal into for a few quiet pints tonight, you have a massive day of sport to keep you company.

Here’s the itinerary for the day so you don’t have to shell out for the RTE guide.

Chelsea vs West Ham – Sky Sports 1 at 12.45

First up is the league leaders hosting their London rivals who have been one of the year’s surprise packages. West Ham have played some really nice football so this shouldn’t be the one-sided affair it might have been in years past.

Racing from Leopardstown – RTE 1 at 1-3.15 pm

Don Cossack ridden by Brian O'Connell clears the last ahead of Boston Bob ridden by Ruby Walsh and Texas Jack ridden by Paul Carberry to win Donall Farmer / INPHO Donall Farmer / INPHO / INPHO

If you can’t make it to the racecourse then this is the next best thing. RTE don’t show all the races but you will get to see the majority of the action. You’ll need to have your laptop open on the Paddy Power page too.

Man United vs Newcastle – 15.00 on BT Sport 1

Louis van Gaal’s men have been on a superb run of late and while the performances haven’t always been stellar, Man United fans won’t be complaining. But Newcastle have surprised some teams this year – most notably Chelsea – so it is still an exciting bit of afternoon filler.

Munster vs Leinster – 17.00 on TG4

If you are a rugby fan then the Christmas period will be glorious for you as there are inter-provincial grudge matches on three consecutive weekends. The biggest one is the Stephen’s Day clash at Thomond Park and after disappointing displays in the Champions Cup back-to-backs, both provinces could really do with a win – and a performance to go with it.

Arsenal vs QPR – 17.30 on BT Sport 1

Unfortunately, the last Premier League game of the day is also one of the weakest, as Arsenal should be pretty comfortable against bottom-feeders QPR. Considering Man City vs Liverpool was in this slot last year, fans should feel a little cheated.

Ulster vs Connacht – BBC Northern Ireland at 18.45

The last big event of the day is another mouth-watering inter-pro. Connacht have been going well in the league but the visit to Ravenhill will be a massive test on the back of last week’s game against Leinster. By the end of this game you will be all sported out and primed for an enjoyable St Stephen’s Day evening.

What event are you looking forward to the most on Stephen’s Day?
