STEPHEN MCDONNELL WILL skipper Cork’s hurlers next year.

The Glen Rovers man was instrumental in the Blackpool side’s recent county final victory over defending champions, Sars, ending a 26-year wait for the senior crown.

McDonnell made his senior debut in 2011 and established himself as a key defender in the second Jimmy Barry-Murphy regime, featuring in the All-Ireland final thrillers against Clare in 2013 and winning a Munster crown a year later.

He previously captained the county’s minors.

McDonnell takes over from Kanturk goalkeeper Anthony Nash.
