Stoke sign Stephen Ireland on a permanent deal

The Irish midfielder had been on loan at the Potters from Aston Villa.

STOKE HAVE COMPLETED the signing of Stephen Ireland from Aston Villa.

The 27-year-old Cork native joined the Potters on a season-long loan at the start of the current campaign and has impressed under Mark Hughes – making 16 appearances and scoring three goals.

And his performances have led the Premier League outfit to offer him a permanent deal.

Stoke manager Hughes told the club’s website: “Stephen is a talented footballer and has shown what he’s capable of since he joined us.

“We’re delighted to have made his switch a permanent arrangement as it also gives us the opportunity to bring in another player on loan if necessary.”
