'Maybe I can go and win it now' - Roche tells fans to keep voting

Ireland’s Puskas Award finalist is up against Robin van Persie and James Rodriguez.

STEPHANIE ROCHE HAS set her sights on winning the Fifa Puskas Award after she was named as one of the three finalists today.

Having been nominated in the ten-strong shortlist, the Ireland international was this afternoon included alongside Manchester United striker Robin van Persie and Real Madrid’s James Rodriguez for the goal of the year prize.

That means a trip to Zurich for January’s Ballon d’Or awards ceremony, where she will rub shoulders with the world’s best players before the winner is announced.

Roche has been overwhelmed by the support she has received so far and is calling on fans to keep it up as voting has re-opened this evening.

“This is fantastic for me but I owe a lot to everybody who has voted for me and got behind me,” she said in the FAI video below. “It has been fantastic and I’m just delighted that I get to go to the awards now.

“Really thanks, and maybe I can go and win it now. Keep voting!”
