Stenson thinks of a calm blue ocean, takes Munich lead

Sweden’s Henrik Stenson put his tantrum at the US Open behind him to lead the BMW International Open in Munich.

HENRIK STENSON PUT his US Open hissy-fit firmly behind him to lead the BMW International Open in Munich on Thursday.

The Swede badly cut his finger four days ago by breaking his seven-iron in frustration at Congressional, but was coolness personified in shooting an eight-under-par 64.

He leads England’s Gary Boyd by a single shot.

Stenson, wearing a bandage on his finger, grabbed an eagle and seven birdies during a round that was interrupted by heavy showers throughout.

“I don’t think you will find a player who’s been out here 10 to 15 years who has not had some rough times,” he said.

“We all go through ups and downs. I’ve been struggling with my game a little bit, but it’s hard to put my finger on what it’s been.

“I played a lot better last week. My confidence is still not as high as it can be, but I’m working away trying to do the things that are going to lead me back.”
