ST PATRICK’S ATHLETIC have contacted the Gardai over comments made on social networking sites after the Ford FAI Cup final.
The Saints lost out to Derry City 3-2 after extra-time at the Aviva Stadium on Sunday, meaning the club’s 51-year cup drought will stretch at least another 12 months.

Goalkeeper Brendan Clarke started ahead of Barry Murphy and was at fault for Derry’s second goal – bringing down Stephen McLaughlin to hand Rory Patterson the chance to score from the penalty spot.
And in a statement released by the Inchicore club, they have revealed that Clarke was among a number of players to receive abuse on Twitter after the final whistle.
They added that an investigation into the matter will begin with disciplinary action to be taken against those found guilty.
“The players and staff of St Patrick’s Athletic wish to express our disgust at some of the comments made on social networking sites towards some of our players and in particular our goalkeeper Brendan Clarke following the FAI Ford Cup Final,” the statement read.
The Club does not tolerate bullying or hatred of any kind towards any of our staff, players or fans and have contacted the Gardai in relation to the matter. The Club are carrying out a full investigation and the individuals will be brought in front of our disciplinary board.
