Peter Cherrie (Dundalk) – It’s unusual to be lauding a player who’s team suffered defeat but Cherrie was outstanding from start to finish. He made several top class saves to deny the hosts but was left helpless by David Scully’s powerful header.
Defence
Simon Madden (Shamrock Rovers) – The right back was at his marauding best with two Rovers goals on the night coming via his deliveries from the flank.
Dave Webster (Bray Wanderers) – Bray kept a clean sheet during a fine win over Dundalk and Webster played particularly well at the back.

Jeff Henderson(Sligo Rovers) – The standout defender on the night. He made sure that the Limerick frontline was kept reasonably quiet and was on hand to intercept any interplay between them.
Brian Lenihan (Cork City) – Lenihan, signed from Munster Senior League side College Corinthians two years ago, is enjoying a terrific season for the Rebels and put in an assured performance on Friday night.
Midfield
Stephen McPhail(Shamrock Rovers) – Clocking up just his third full 90 minutes in the league, McPhail showed some class touches against Drogheda as Rovers won the midfield battle.
James Chambers (St Patrick’s Athletic) – A man-of-the-match performance from the Saints midfielder, who opened the scoring and had a hand in Christy Fagan’s first.
Paddy Kavanagh (Bohemians) – Gypies attacker Kavanagh was a creative spark for away side and set up Jason Byrne for the equaliser at Turner’s Cross.
Robbie Benson (UCD) – The Students captain was excellent on the night and scored a magnificent solo goal after picking up the ball in his own half in the 1-1 draw away to Derry.
Dave Scully (Bray Wanderers) - Several eyebrows were raised when Alan Mathews decided to deploy the striker on the wing a couple of games into the season but Scully continues to impress in his new role.
Forwards
Christy Fagan (St Patrick’s Athletic) – A double from the league’s in-form striker has brought his league tally to eight goals in the first team games of the season.
