Shels lead the way in the First Division, wins for Galway and Wexford

Johnny McDonnell’s men are top of the second tier after a 2-0 win over Finn Harps.

SHELBOURNE EARNED A 2-0 win over Finn Harps at Tolka Park to surge to the top of the SSE Airtricity League First Division table.

Going into tonight’s clash, the two sides were level on eight points from their opening four games but a first half goal from Gareth Coughlan and Keith Quinn’s injury-time penalty secured the three points.

The visitors’ best chance saw Michael Funston’s penalty saved  just before the half-time interval.

Galway were 4-0 winners over Cobh Ramblers thanks to a brace from Stephen Walsh as well as goals from Ryan Manning and Jason Molloy.

Wexford Youths, meanwhile, edged out Shamrock Rovers B at Ferrycarrig Park with all three goals coming from Danny Furlong.
