Squad update: Kelly and Westwood ruled out

The pair won’t be involved in Wednesday’s friendly with the Czech Republic at Lansdowne Road because of injury, while Kevin Doyle and Keith Fahey sat out training today.

STEPHEN KELLY AND Keiren Westwood are the latest players to withdraw from Wednesday’s friendly game with the Czech Republic.

Fulham defender Kelly will not add to his 29 senior caps this week as he missed out on today’s training session at Malahide United’s Gannon Park and has returned to London for treatment on an injured hamstring.

Back-up goalkeeper Westwood is struggling with a wrist problem and is likely to travel back to Sunderland for assessment.

Wolves striker Kevin Doyle, who played 90 minutes in the 2-2 draw with Newcastle on Saturday, and Birmingham City’s Keith Fahey didn’t train this morning after being rested as a precautionary measure but are expected to be fit for the game.

Manager Giovanni Trapattoni has hinted at ringing in the changes in order to get a look at fringe players and the uncapped James McClean and Shane Duffy, are likely to play some part.
