Spurs appoint Tim Sherwood as interim first team coach

Sherwood has worked as techinical co-ordinator at White Hart Lane since 2008.

TOTTENHAM HOTSPUR HAVE appointed Tim Sherwood as interim first team coach while they search for a permanent successor to Andre Villas-Boas.

Villas-Boas was sacked this morning following Spurs’ 5-0 defeat against Liverpool, their fifth in the league this season.

Sherwood will take charge for Wednesday evening’s Capital One Cup fixture against London rivals West Ham.

The former midfielder, who played four seasons with the club, has worked as techinical co-ordinator at White Hart Lane since 2008.

Bookmakers immediately slashed the odds on Sherwood getting the job on a permanent basis, making him the 7/2 favourite ahead of Michael Laudrup and Fabio Capello.

“The club can announce that Tim Sherwood, Chris Ramsey and Les Ferdinand will take charge of the First Team whilst the Club progresses discussions,” Spurs said in a statement.

“Steffen Freund and Tony Parks continue as part of the coaching staff.

“Jose Mario Rocha, Luis Martins and Daniel Sousa leave the coaching staff and we wish them well for the future.”
