Adebayor inspires stunning Spurs comeback in Europa League

Tim Sherwood’s side looked dead and buried as they needed three goals against a stubborn Dnipro team.

SPURS CARRIED A 1 – 0 deficit into tonight’s Europa League last 32 second leg clash with Dnipro.

And thanks to Roman Zozulya’s 48th minute header at White Hart Lane, Tim Sherwood looked to be facing an embarrassing exit from the competition.

Needing three goals to progress, the home side’s hope was finally stoked by this sublime Christian Eriksen free kick on 56 minutes.

Soon, another big moment in the game would go Spurs’ way, Zozulya issued a straight red card after Jan Vertonghen crumpled to the floor in the Dnipro area just after the hour mark.

The visitors were rattled, and Spurs made hay before they could regroup, this Emmanuel Adebayor goal pulling the hosts level on aggregate, but they still trailed on away goals…

Once Adebayor gets himself on a roll, he is a difficult man to stop and he proved just that when he rose to chest down Zeki Fryers’ 69th minute cross.

Sherwood’s side would still have to endure some shaky moments on the back as Dnipro attacked knowing a late goal would prove fatal to Spurs’ hopes of progression. For the most part, though, the 11-men were able to hold Juande Ramos’ side at arm’s lenght and hold on through the five minutes of added time.
