I suppose when you look at why the black card was brought in, it was for cynical play, for blocks, pull-downs or trips. I don’t think it fits into that category. But from the referee’s performance, we’re just looking for consistency.

Dublin manager Jim Gavin was perplexed after wing-back James McCarthy was shown a black card in the first half of Sunday’s All-Ireland final against Mayo.

The Fixture List

• There are eight fixtures in the third round of the EFL Cup tomorrow night: Bournemouth v Preston, Brighton v Reading, Derby v Liverpool, Everton v Norwich, Leeds v Blackburn, Leicester v Chelsea, Newcastle v Wolves and Nottingham Forest v Arsenal. All of the games kick off at 7.45pm.
• There is also one game on tomorrow night in the SSE Airtricity League: Dundalk host Shamrock Rovers from 7.05pm.
• In the NFL, there is one game on early tomorrow morning with Philadelphia Eagles in Chicago to play the Bears.
