Open thread: what are your sporting hopes for 2014?

From big ambitions for Irish silverware to getting to the marathon finish line.

WHATEVER THE DISAPPOINTMENTS or near-misses of 2013, today marks a clean scorecard for sports fans.

The next 12 months promise much. Joe Schmidt will take his new Ireland team into his first Six Nations championship.

Martin O’Neill and Roy Keane will prepare their national side for a Euro 2016 campaign bid, while the rest of the world focuses on the small matter of a World Cup in Brazil.

Clare will attempt to reproduce the magic of last summer’s hurling championship while the Dubs start as favourites, once again, for Sam.  But what are your hopes for the year ahead?

Finish a marathon? Watch your county lift a trophy? Be there when BOD bows out with a Grand Slam win?
