Speculation mounts as Trap cancels Dublin press conference

The Italian will depart Torshavn for his homeland tomorrow morning.

Updated 9.10pm

GIOVANNI TRAPATTONI WILL travel straight back to Italy after tonight’s World Cup qualifier.

Speculation that tonight’s meeting with the Faroe Islands will be the 73-year-old’s final game in charge of the national team continues to grow with the FAI believed to be ready to pay-off the remainder of his contract.

RTÉ commentator George Hamilton has tweeted that Trap’s sister is in hospital and this is the reason he’s heading straight home.

Trapattoni was scheduled to travel to Dublin to face the media for his usual briefing at the Clarion Hotel tomorrow evening but instead will now return to his homeland.

Ireland kick-off in Torshavn at 7pm this evening.
