How Twitter, Bovril and Sammy Saint helped a Southampton fan secure a date

WE’VE ALL BEEN there. You make eye contact with an attractive stranger at a game and something sparks. But we’re quite shy around TheScore.ie towers so like this Southampton fan, we probably wouldn’t have the courage to talk to the person.

However, we also wouldn’t go about tweeting the club’s official Twitter account in an effort to find the identity of the mystery supporter but that’s exactly what he did.

Known only as Timothy, just before Christmas, he tweeted the following:

For all kinds of privacy reasons, the club didn’t hand over the woman’s details, even after Timothy asked them to set up a Zorb race.

However, just when all seemed lost, Sammy Saint – the Southampton mascot – stepped in to save the day with Bovril and a bunch of flowers:
