Southampton have terminated record signing Dani Osvaldo's contract

Osvaldo joined Southampton in 2013 for an initial fee of £12.9 million.

SOUTHAMPTON HAVE TERMINATED the contract of club record signing Dani Osvaldo, the Premier League club have announced today.

The 29-year-old initially joined the Saints on a four-year deal from Roma in August 2013, but struggled to adapt to life in England. On 3 January 2014, Osvaldo was fined £40,000 and banned for three matches after a touchline altercation in a match with Newcastle on 14 December.

Three weeks later, Southampton announced they had suspended Osvaldo for two weeks following an undisclosed training ground incident, later revealed to have been a fight with teammate José Fonte. Osvaldo had gained a reputation for this kind of indiscipline after being suspended by former club Roma in 2011 for punching then team-mate Erik Lamela during a defeat to Udine.

Southampton football club can confirm that it has terminated the contract of striker Dani Osvaldo. The Italian international, who has not played for the club since January 2014, yesterday completed a loan spell with Argentinian club Boca Juniors,” read a statement on Southampton’s official website.

In recent times he has enjoyed loan spells at Juventus, Inter Milan and Boca Juniors.

One of the few positives from his spell at Southampton was this gem against Manchester City:
