IRELAND’S PAUL MCGINLEY lies four shots behind leaders Alejandro Canizares and Peter Whiteford after the first round of the Avantha Masters in New Delhi.
The 45-year-old holed three birdies and three bogeys while an eagle at the ninth was the highlight, as he carded a two-under-par 70 at the DLF Golf and Country Club this morning.
Spain’s Canizares is tied out in front with Scot Whiteford after excellent rounds of 66 but John Daly had a miserable time – hitting bogeys on the fourth, fifth twelfth, fifteenth and eighteenth to finish the day seven-over.
Reigning champion SSP Chowrasia injured his left wrist while practising last week, which has hampered his bid to reclaim the title, but is only one shot off McGinley after playing through the pain barrier.
