'He's a winger playing left-back' - Souness and Carragher unimpressed by lacklustre Moreno

The Spaniard has had a torrid afternoon at the Emirates.

FORMER LIVERPOOL PLAYERS Jamie Carragher and Graeme Souness have hit out at Alberto Moreno’s display in today’s Arsenal-Liverpool encounter.

The 24-year-old full-back had a torrid first-half, conceding a penalty after a rash tackle in the box, before being caught badly out of position for Theo Walcott’s opening goal.

Sky Sports pundit Souness pulled no punches when assessing the player’s performance at half-time, commenting: “He’s a winger playing at left-back. He doesn’t think about danger first, he thinks how can I get the ball going forward.”

Carragher was similarly damning — with Arsenal 3-1 down at the time, the ex-Reds defender said he wouldn’t be confident of a Liverpool victory owing to the left-back’s presence in the team.

It is not the first time Moreno has come in for criticism.

Amid a disappointing Europa League final defeat to Sevilla last season, the Spaniard’s deficiencies were badly exposed, prompting Carragher to tweet: “Sign a f***ing left-back!”
