Snipers to be deployed to boost security at France v Russia

Extra security measures will be taken for the French team’s first game back at Stade de France since November’s terrorist attacks.

SNIPERS WILL BE deployed to boost security at Stade de France for Tuesday’s international friendly between France and Russia.

Paris was hit by terrorist attacks on November 13 when France were playing Germany at the stadium, with explosions taking place near the ground as part of a string of venues targeted in events that killed 130 people.

Deputy head of the Paris headquarters for public order and road traffic Laurent Simonin confirmed there will be snipers and specialist security teams on sight for France’s first match back at Stade de France since the attacks.

“The snipers will be placed around the stadium,” Simonin said to BFM-TV.

“Also, an elite unit of the French national police will be on guard during the match and will be available to intervene in the stadium or at the vicinity.

“The security features for the match are similar to what was implemented for all three games of the Six Nations Rugby with simply an extra supplementary security device.”

Good idea, but not gonna stop a suicide bomber if the trigger is set to act when he releases it as most do, so it still goes off if they get shot..

hopefully it won’t happen but there’s always the chance of human error and a civilian being taken out by mistake by some lad who’s a bit too wired.

They don’t all necessarily dress in Arab garb clutching a Koran, you might be sitting next to a Muslim right now, shock horror!

I wasn’t sure if was serious or joking so I just laughed along. Anyone who proposes denying entry to a person based on their religious beliefs probably deserves their own freedoms curtailed too. Imagine not allowing Irish people into a stadium because of the IRA. Bet that person would be outraged by that suggestion

Andrew, after the IRA bombings of Canary wharf, it would have been totally understandable if the Brits had banned migration from Ireland in the aftermath. In fact i would have been supportive despite any personal inconvenience. The bottom line is the communities that produce terrorists MUST take some collective responsibility, and suffer some consequences accordingly.

Agreed cal. I have been down voted in the past for stating that if I was subjected to extra scrutiny in a British airport in the 70s it would be perfectly understandable. Airport security devoting the same amount of time and resources into for example a 70 year old Japanese women as they would a 27 year Afghan is clearly PC madness but that is how the world is

We were subject to extra scrutiny entering the UK during the Provos campaign: nobody remember the pink slips entering Britain from Ireland, or the fortified border to the north despite us and the U.K. having a free travel arrangement. Few complained because we all understood.

So Ed, would you think it’s ok for some other nationality to avoid you because they heard your irish accent and therefore naturally assume you’re a member of the Real IRA and must be concealing a gun or explosive? F**kin’ eejit…

I was over for the France v Ireland game in February. Stayed with a couple of French friends. This is the game they’re most worried about because of Russia’s support for Assaid. Security will be tight for sure. The problem with the SdeF is anyone looking to take the RER back to the city has to wait under this overpass as they filter people through in groups. That’s the ultimate definition of a sitting duck

Unfortunately this would be a prime target for Syrian rebels, Chechen rebels and ISIS, if only we knew what links these groups.
