Sligo Rovers to play Ole Solskjaer's Molde in the Champions League

Glasgow Celtic have been drawn against Cliftonville while Drogheda United could end up facing Pat Fenlon’s Hibernian.

AIRTRICITY LEAGUE 2012 WINNERS Sligo Rovers will play Molde FK in the second qualifying round of the Champions League.

Ian Baraclough’s men will take on the Norwegian side, managed by former Manchester United striker Ole Gunar Solskjaer, who scored the winner in the 1999 Champions League Final against Bayern Munich.

Rovers revealed that Baraclough and Solksjaer previously completed their ‘A’ coaching licence in England. The first leg will be in the Showgrounds and the return will be in Norway. The Irish club will let supporters know about a possible charter flight later today.

Glasgow Celtic, European Cup winners in 1967, have been drawn against Cliftonville.

UEFA General Secretary Gianni Infantino and competitions director Giorgio Marchetti made the draw for the second qualifying round.

The winners of the 16 matches in the second qualifying draw go through to a third qualifying round and a play-off to reach the group stage, which begins on 17 September. Next year’s final will take place in Lisbon on 24 May.

Europa League

In the UEFA Europa League, St Patrick’s Athletic were paired with VMFD Žalgiris of Lithuania with the away leg scheduled to be first while Drogheda United will host Malmö FF at Tallaght Stadium.

If St Pat’s get past the Lithuanian side they will face either Fk Teteks (Macedonia) or FC Pyunik (Armenia) in the second qualifying round. Should Drogheda United get past the Swedes they will encounter Scottish side Hibernian FC – who are managed by former Bohemians and Shelbourne boss Pat Fenlon.

Derry City were in the pot for the second qualifying round and they pulled out a tough test in Turkish side Trabzonspor.
