SLIGO ROVERS FINALLY got their first point and goal of the 2016 season on board when they drew 1-1 with Galway United.
Sligo Rovers had not yet scored this season as they entered this meeting with Galway United, but they ended that after just 49 seconds thanks to a defensive mix-up from the Tribesmen defence.
A Ryan Connolly throw fell into the path of Liam Martin when John Sullivan missed it, and the Donegal native latched on to the loose ball and easily beat Conor Winn, who definitely should have done better.

While Galway were initially stunned by the early goal, they soon found their feet and should have equalised at least twice before the interval.
Former Sligo man Connolly tried his luck from long range, and at first, looked to be well target, but the ball took an almighty dip and only for an excellent fingertip save from Schlingermann, they certainly would have found themselves on level terms.
Next, Stephen Folan’s inch-perfect cross from the right fell to Vinny Faherty who waited too long to pull the trigger, and his close-range attempt was blocked.
The visitors got a well-deserved equaliser in the early stages of the second-half, when Ryan Connolly’s cleared cross fell to Ruairi Keating. The former Rovers man calmly slotted past Schlingerman to make it one apiece.
Galway went on in search of a winner, and almost found it when Connolly danced his way into the box and crossed for Keating whose header smacked the crossbar.
Sligo’s discipline was the centre of attention following their two red cards in the opening game, and they added to that list when Philip Roberts received his marching orders in the 90th minute.
