The idea appears to come from this train station in Utrecht, and the company believe it could “inject some fun” into the Toon.

Frankly, the first thing we thought of was this guy and his guaranteed attempt to take use of the travel accelerator.
Though perhaps the designers also had the big naked fan in mind as they suggest:
“Being playful and doing something a little unusual aims to encourage people to spend more time here enjoying the city.
“We want people to ride the slide, then go up the stairs and do it again.”
