THE GALWAY RACES is in full swing all week at Ballybrit Racecourse, and the craic is as good as ever.
Yesterday was a little bit more special because President Michael D made his annual appearance at the track – and even made it on to Sky’s At The Races coverage:
But there was another man interviewed by At The Races who’s become a bit of a viral sensation.
An unnamed 96-year-old club member was interviewed beside trainer Michael O’Callaghan – and they were there to see their horse Perfect Soldier running
They chatted to him live on air before the race began:
“I’m 96… and six months along with it”
And sure enough, Perfect Soldier came through and won out in the end
And, of course, the At The Races crew had to go and find Perfect Soldier’s biggest fan. He was delighted
It was revealed that he’s the “longest-serving racegoer in Galway”
Did he back him?
“Oh I did, god I did. I didn’t break his back or anything – I knew if he had too much on him and he wouldn’t be able to go. Thankful to you all, wonderful people”
Enjoy the winnings <3

Fair play to him, he’s holding it well. Hope he sees a few more years of Galway festivals yet.
I often meet this man at the Curragh..great character. He hasn’t missed a Derby in donkeys years.
Why would Higgins being there make it special?
You’re getting like the British with the Royal family.
@Joseph Rooney: oh give it a rest.
@oh i dunno:
So you are unable to refute what I said. Why did you bother to post then?
