DUTCH SPEED SKATER Sjinkie Knegt discovered one of the more bizarre ways to lose a European medal yesterday.
Knegt gave Victor Ahn the finger as his rival crossed the line to win the European Short Track Championships in Dresden.
The 24-year-old admitted that his emotions had got the better of him at the end of the relay but officials stripped him of his third-place finish and individual bronze… because, you know, you can’t do that.
Russia’s Semen Elistratov took silver while Knegt’s team-mate Niels Kerstholt was promoted to bronze.
But it’s Knegt we’ll be keeping our eye on at Sochi.
