KARL LACEY AND Henry Shefflin have been named Footballer and Hurler of the Year respectively, at the 2012 GAA All-Star awards ceremony this evening.
Shefflin was rewarded for his typically inspirational form this year, as he helped Kilkenny win the All-Ireland Senior Hurling Championship.
It is the third time the star has won the accolade, having previously received it in 2002 and 2006.
Donegal’s Karl Lacey was also acknowledged for his role in helping Donegal to triumph in the All-Ireland Senior Football Championship for the first time since 1992.
He thus becomes the first Donegal footballer ever to win the award since its inception in 1995.
Meanwhile, Mayo’s Cillian O’Connor was named Young Footballer of the Year, while Johnny Coen of Galway claimed the Young Hurler of the Year award.
Congratulations to Karl Lacey, an immense achievement.
One of the greats.

Shefflin award for what…fastest time for sprinting the length of a GAA pitch to intimidate a referee?
Is that all you can remember when you watched Kilkenny or Henry Shefflin playing hurling Alan? Try another sport.
