Waterford United scored directly from a corner last night

Ok there was a gale force storm blowing down in the RSC, but still…

ONLY THE BRAVE ventured out to the RSC for last night’s pre-season friendly between Waterford United and Limerick but at least they got to see this goal, scored directly from a corner by Shane Murray.

Much as we’d like to give Murray all the credit, we have to chalk it up as a first assist of the season for the wind.

Shane Tracy equalised for Limerick after the break for a 1-1 draw.

Elsewhere three of Shamrock Rovers’ new boys got on the scoresheet as they opened their defence of the Leinster Senior Cup with a 5-1 win over Drogheda United.

Gary McCabe opened the scoring with a penalty after eight minutes before Simon Madden, Kieran Marty Waters, Conor Kenna and Ciaran Kilduff added to the rout.

Sligo Rovers beat Galway FC 2-1, Athlone Town were 4-1 winners against Wexford Youths and Derry City won 3-0 against Derry & District Select.
