GLOUCESTER’S IRISH WINGER Shane Monahan came off the bench this weekend to deliver a match-winning performance that included a hat-trick of tries.
The 27-year-old, who appeared in the Ireland U20 team that won the 2007 Six Nations Grand Slam, has had an injury hit season but, once again, gave fans a taster of his undoubted finishing talents. His treble inspired Gloucester to a 38-30 win over London Irish at Kingsholm.
Monahan and Exiles’ Marland Yarde traded hat-tricks in a thrilling encounter that was eventually clinched when the Meath man went over in the corner late in the game.
The result was not enough to catch London wasps in the European Cup playoff position [seventh place]. Wasps will now face Stade Francais for the final spot in Europe’s elite, and yet to be sponsored, club competition.
