Shane Long scored not once but twice today to break his Southampton duck

Like London Buses, they say.

SINCE HIS BIG-MONEY move from Hull during the summer, Shane Long had gone ten Premier League appearances without finding the net for his new club Southampton.

However, the Ireland striker made up for lost time this afternoon as he ensured the Saints’ superlative start to the season continued. Long scored both goals as Ronald Koeman’s side beat Leicester City 2-0, a victory that consolidates their position in second place.

Long has now three goals for the south-coast club after netting in the Capital One Cup against Stoke City last month.

Nonetheless, it seems he has picked the best possible time to return to form with Ireland’s crunch qualifier against Scotland on the horizon.

Now, if he could save one of these fine finishes for Celtic Park next week.
