Shane Long rescues late point for Hull after Dejagah screamer for Fulham

The Irish striker denied Felix Magath’s side of a win that would have seen them escape the relegation zone.

Fulham 2-2 Hull City

Steve Bruce broke the Hull City transfer record twice in a week, in January, by signing strikers Nikica Jelavic and Shane Long. This afternoon, the two men scored late goals to repay a large chunk of their respective transfer fees.

Fulham looked set to climb out of the relegation zone as they led 2-0 going into the final 15 minutes but the Tigers responded with a couple of hammer blows. Jelavic nodded home on 75 minutes and Long stooped to head in the equaliser with three minutes of normal time left.

Ashkan Dejagah put the Cottagers ahead with a superbly struck effort after 55 minutes. Fernando Amorebieta doubled the lead three minutes later but Hull mounted a comeback that left the home side reeling and a point from safety.

The Baggies took a giant step towards Premier League safety with a 1-0 win over listless and lifeless West Ham at The Hawthorns. Daido Berahino scored a 10th minute goal and WBA bossed possession thereafter.

Sam Allardyce attempted to freshen up his attack by throwing Carlton Cole and Joe Cole on after the break but the home side closed out the game in relative comfort to climb above Aston Villa to 15th. Pepe Mel’s men are five points clear of the drop after that result.
