Shane Duffy called into Ireland squad

The Everton centre-half replaces Richard Dunne who faces a period on the sidelines, having fractured his clavicle yesterday.

GIOVANNI TRAPATTONI HAS called young Everton defender Shane Duffy into the Ireland squad for the upcoming friendly with the Czech Republic at the Aviva Stadium.

The centre-half replaces Richard Dunne who faces a period on the sidelines, having sustained a fractured clavicle in Aston Villa’s clash against Manchester City yesterday.

“Buzzing that I’ve been called up to the senior squad! Thanks for all the tweets everyone dream come true!” the player tweeted earlier.

In May 2010, Duffy suffered a ‘freak’ life-threatening injury during an Ireland training match, but has since recovered and impressed during loan spells with Burnley and Scunthorpe United last season.

Everton recalled the Derry youngster at the start of the year and Duffy wasted little time in breaking into the first team, making his first Premier League start in the 1-1 draw against Aston Villa recently.
