After a rough few days, Shane Duffy grabbed a huge extra-time winner for Blackburn tonight

The Derry native went from villain to hero at Ewood Park.

HE HAD AN absolute nightmare against Cardiff last week – scoring two own goals before then being sent-off – but Shane Duffy went from villain to hero at Ewood Park tonight.

They trailed Crewe Alexandra by two goals after 39 minutes but Hope Akpan struck before the break to half the deficit.

With 20 minutes left, Scott Wharton equalised before Craig Conway gave Blackburn an 88th-minute lead.

But the guests spoiled the party and Chris Dagnall grabbed his brace and levelled in injury-time to force an additional 30 minutes.

But it was Duffy who proved the difference.

After a Conway set-piece, the Republic of Ireland international was in the right place at the right time and grabbed the all-important winner.

Blackburn progress to the third round and the Derry native can put a rough few days behind him.
