Cork snap up Hoops striker Kilduff for remainder of the season

The Leesiders have pulled off a major coup by bringing in the 24-year-old hitman.

SHAMROCK ROVERS STRIKER Ciaran Kilduff has joined Cork City on a short term loan deal.

The 24-year-old former UCD player, who is under contract with the Hoops until the end of 2014, will link up with Tommy Dunne’s side for the rest of the season it has been announced today.

With the departure of Gary Twigg, big things were expected of Kilduff at the start of the campaign but he has been in and out of the Rovers team. That said, it seems a strange move and will increase speculation of Trevor Croly bringing in another frontman such as Eamon Zayed, who could be set for a return to the league.

In a statement released this afternoon, the club said:  Shamrock Rovers have today confirmed that their striker Ciarán Kilduff has joined Cork City on loan for the remainder of the 2013 season.

“The club wish the 24-year-old well in his loan spell with the Leesiders and look forward to welcoming him back to Tallaght following the conclusion of his loan deal.”

Cork boss Tommy Dunne added: “I’m delighted to bring a player of Ciaran’s quality. He’s been in the league for a while and he is renowned for scoring goals. We need a bit more mobility and physicality up front and he gives us that.

“He’s a fit lad and we are hoping that he will bring some badly needed goals to the side, because we have not been scoring enough goals. He wants to play – he’s hungry and he’s ready, so I know that he will definitely enhance our group.”
