WE’VE ALL been there. Usually it’s a crossbar challenge that takes us an age to master. But attempting to score from behind the goal is something we’ve tried many times too.
It usually ends in embarrassment and mass ridicule. So, trust a top-class player to put us all to shame. Was it Cristiano Ronaldo? Gareth Bale? Wayne Rooney? Not quite. Step forward one Sergio Ramos.
The Spanish centre-back conjured a moment of brilliance as Real Madrid took in some training at Munich’s Allianz Arena, ahead of tonight’s Champions League semi-final second-leg clash with Bayern.
Standing a couple of feet behind the touchline, Ramos carefully caressed the ball with the outside of his boot and watched as it swerved magnificently towards the far post, kissing the upright before nestling in the net.
We hadn’t seen such meticulousness since Ramos rocked that perfectly-maintained and manicured, shoulder-length mane.
The amount of bend on Ramos’ effort brought back memories of Roberto Carlos’ free-kick against France in 1997.
